IMMUNIZATION AND WELLNESS CARE

At Blue Cross Animal Hospital we strive to prevent illness whenever possible. The time and effort invested in Wellness programs has rewards for both pets and owners. Our Wellness programs are designed specifically for your pet and include: comprehensive physical exam; internal parasite testing and treatment; heartworm prevention; vaccination program; and specialized blood tests for all life stages.

SURGERY

We offer advanced surgical techniques and technology. All patients have pre-anesthetic bloodwork performed, and anesthetic protocols are specifically tailored to your pet. Intravenous fluids are administered to help maintain blood pressure and keep hydration normal. Surgical services and facilities include: board certified surgeon available for consultation; fully trained veterinary and technical staff, to ensure the safest, most efficient, state-of-the-art procedures for your pet; heated surgery tables and warm air blankets for greater comfort; advanced sterilization techniques; ECG and oxygen saturation monitors and intensive post-surgical care.

LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY

Laparoscopy surgery gives veterinarians the ability to perform traditional open surgery procedures with a much more highly developed method. Laparoscopy (also known as videoscopic surgery) is a minimally invasive technique for viewing the internal structures of the abdomen.  A camera inserted through a small incision in the abdomen magnifies the surgery on a monitor for a more thorough examination. In addition the incisions of a laparoscopic spay are typically 3/16” in size, compared to the traditional 2” to 3”. Studies conclude that laparoscopic spays reduced post-operative pain by 65% versus traditional spays and patients saw a quicker recovery time. Abdominal organ biopsies and gastropexies can also be performed in a markedly less invasive manner. The length of surgery and patient recovery time may be reduced.

INTERNAL MEDICINE

We can perform diagnostics and treatments for all areas of internal medicine, including: Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Orthopedic surgery, Oncology and Endocrinology. We have the opportunity to consult with specialists in each area of medicine. And, if needed, consultations can be arranged with one of the many specialists in the Las Vegas area.

ENDOSCOPY

High-tech fiber optics permits direct visual examination and biopsies of your pet’s gastrointestinal system. This allows for more accurate diagnosis and treatment of oral, esophageal, stomach, colon and even upper intestinal tract disease. Foreign objects can also be removed without the need for surgery.

RADIOLOGY

Radiology – or X-rays – help our veterinarians evaluate muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular(cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems. Radiographs are taken in hospital for immediate review. We also have the ability to send out films for a board-certified radiologist or internist review, if needed.

ULTRASOUND

This non-invasive, state-of-the-art technology uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs, primarily the heart and abdominal organs. Pregnancy exams are also available.

DENTAL CARE

Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet’s teeth. We use modern and safe ultrasonic scaling to clean each tooth thoroughly – above and below the gum line. Dental radiographs are taken to evaluate the tooth root and surrounding bone for evidence of disease. Dental technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. Fluoride treatments help strengthen enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity. OraVet, a plaque preventive gel, is applied to the gingival margin to slow plaque development. Pre-anesthetic blood work is required for all dental procedures. All patients receive intravenous fluids and are closely monitored while anesthetized for dental procedures. We also carry a variety of toothbrushes, toothpastes, mouth rinses and dental chews to help slow tartar development between dental cleanings. FULLY STOCKED PHARMACY

We stock a wide range of the best veterinary drugs in the animal healthcare field. From antibiotics to anti-inflamatories to heartworm and internal parasite control, we have your pet covered. We can also use the services of various compounding pharmacies to obtain flavored chewable tablets and liquids for easier administration of necessary medication.

PAIN MANAGEMENT

Veterinary patients feel pain and discomfort under the same circumstances as people do. We know that recognizing and alleviating pain in animals is the essence of good patient care. Whether its post-surgical pain or chronic arthritis, we strive to keep your pet comfortable.

EMERGENCY AND CRITICAL CARE

In any emergency, seconds count. Our experienced staff is trained and equipped to administer the ABCs of basic life support – Airway, Breathing, Circulation/Cardiac compressions. Emergency care is offered during regular business hours. After hours, we refer our patients and clients to the Las Vegas Animal Emergency Hospital located at 5231 W. Charleston Blvd. (between Jones and Decatur). They can be reached at 822-1045.

MICROCHIPPING

Microchips have helped reunite thousands of pets with their families. We offer the most widely used microchip products to increase the chances of a safe recovery. After the microchip is implanted, we will register your pet with the home again service so your pet will get the full benefit of this service.

NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING

Some pets require special food, and all pets benefit from a balanced diet. From weight loss diets to hypo-allergenic diets, we have a variety to choose from. Our trained staff is available to help you choose the right diet for your pet to keep him or her happy, healthy and active.

BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE

Illness doesn’t always have a physical cause. We can help determine the cause of such disorders as separation anxiety and inappropriate elimination, and then develop a treatment regimen for the owner and pet.

EUTHANASIA SERVICES

Saying goodbye to a long-time friend is painful. Our compassion continues as we try to make this difficult time smooth and pain-free for the pet and the owner. Owners can arrange to have their pet cremated or buried with the help of Craig Road Pet Cemetery, or we can handle the remains.

BOARDING

Pets are like our children – we feed, nurture and lavish attention on them. Our highly qualified kennel attendants do the same when you can’t be there. We provide tender loving care (such as brushing and cuddling), and outdoor playtime to keep them happy and active. Boarding space is limited, so please call well in advance for reservations.

BATHING

Treat your pet to a luxurious bath. Our special, cleansing baths remove dirt, debris and that doggie pet odor – your pet will feel fresh and revitalized. If your pet has a skin condition, our medicated baths contain ingredients to help treat the condition. Services also include a nail trim, ear cleaning and anal gland expression.

DAY CARE

Is your pet unhappy or lonely while you’re at work? Give your companion the personal attention he or she deserves throughout the day. We offer the same TLC and playtime offered to our longer-term guests.
